GEN #1: LEVI RIDGEWAY and wife, MATTIE(Y) DUCKETT RIDGEWAY
Per the Maryland
Marriages of 1655-1850 (Ancestry.com), Levi Ridgeway married Matty
Duckett on December 22, 1801 in Prince Georges County, Maryland; page 68
listings for Duckett:

A Levi Ridgway born 1780 in Maryland
is listed in American Genealogical-Biographical Index (AGBI)
on Ancestry as Volume 146, page 391:
Private in British invasion of Md, 1812-1815. By Will. Matthew Marine.
Baltimore, 1913. (519p.):419
1780 is a possible birth time for
Levi as we know our Levi Ridgeway was married in 1801.
WAR OF 1812: The following is Levi's record from the
Maryland Militia during the WAR of 1812. Here his name is spelled
Ridgway and he is a Private in Capt. Thomas Brooke's Detachment of the
34 Reg't of Maryland Militia that was ordered into service on two
occasions: Aug 4, 1813 for 14 days at Annapolis and was
transferred to Capt. Richard L. Hall's Detachment of the 34th
Reg't. Then in 1814: July 22, 1814 for 9 days, ending July
30, 1814 with Capt. Brooke's Detachment. Levi would have been
about 34 years old.

GEN #2: GEORGE WASHINGTON WILLETT RIDGEWAY and
wife,
MARY ANN WEAVER RIDGEWAY

1860 Census Spaldings
District, Prince Georges, MD,
Long Olds Fields
Post Office. Dist. 6.

In this 1860 Census, G. W. W. (Willett) Ridgeway, is 52 (born about 1808).
He has $300 worth of real estate. No job is listed. Willett
and his wife Mary are unable to read or write, but the children John and
George can. Mary is 38 (born about 1822). Son John is 13,
George 10, daughter Martha is 7.
1880 Census for Spaldings
District, Prince Georges, MD, taken June 12, 1880.
Note: Willett Ridgeway family lives two doors from his son's family,
George and Henrietta Ridgeway:

Is this 1880 Census the right family??? Hummmm. All births
seem to be off by several years. Willett Ridgeway, Head of
Household, is listed as 66 years old (born 1814 instead of 1808) and is
working as a "farmhand" while his wife Mary D(?) Ridgeway is 64
(born 1816 instead of 1822) and keeps house. Their 30 year old son
John (born 1850 instead of 1847) is still living with them, as a
farmhand. All three of them are checked as "cannot read" and "cannot
write." All three were born in Maryland to Maryland-born parents.
The tombstone of Mary A. Wife of
Willett Ridgeway, "Died Augt. 11, 1889 at age 88 years."
Thanks to Donna Robertson for sharing this photo!

GEN #3: INCLUDES THREE CHILDREN
of
GEORGE WASHINGTON WILLETT RIDGEWAY
and wife,
MARY ANN WEAVER RIDGEWAY:
1) OLDEST KNOWN CHILD: JOHN
THOMAS RIDGEWAY

George Washington Willett Ridgeway and Mary Ann
Weaver Ridgeway's oldest known son is John Thomas Ridgeway, born
28 Dec 1847 in Prince Georges County, MD. He was baptized there on
November 19, 1853 and was listed as the son of Wm. and Mary Ann
Ridgway.
A John Thomas
Ridgeway is buried (burial 3/11/1921; age 76) in Range 7, Site 2 at St.
Barnabas Church Cemetery. It is strongly held that this is the
John Thomas Ridgeway living with our Cator family in 1880 Census for
Spaldings, Prince Georges, MD.
Per 1880 Census Spaldings,
Prince Georges County, MD:
NOTE:
THESE ARE OUR CATORS in the 1880 Census
Note: Those listed and their parents were all born
in Maryland.
Thomas CATOR, 46 year old farmer and head of household
(1834).
Sarah E. CATOR, his 34 year old wife who kept house.
William CATOR, 18 year old son.
Ella CATOR, 14 year old daughter.
Florence CATOR 6 year old niece.
John Thomas RIDGEWAY 32 year
old farmhand (born @ 1848).

1920 Census for Howard and Hattie Ridgeway Beall in PGC, MD on B
Road and Silver Hill Road; taken March 17, 1920, Spaldings
District, lists JOHN RIDGEWAY, UNCLE - this John Thomas Ridgeway.

Hattie, daughter of George and Harriett Anderson Ridgeway, is now
married to Howard Beal and has three children: Dorothy, age
10; Howard age 8; and Woodrow (?) age 7. Also living with
them is John Ridgeway, Hattie's uncle who is 73 (born in 1847) and
Widowed. Two other listings are for a Christianne Cook
(Aunt) and Raymond King (10 year old son of whom?).
Death
Certificate of John Thomas Ridgeway 1921, reported by his
nephew-in-law, Howard Beall of Silver Hill, with whom John Thomas
was still living when he died.
From this we learn that John was "76" upon death per this record.
He was widowed (there is speculation he had married an Alice LNU).
John died in Silver Hill, MD, of chronic nephritis (kidney
disease), from which he had suffered 5 years. It suggests
that Hattie and Howard Beall cared for John Thomas Ridgeway in
their home for at least a year or so. His burial was
3/13/1921 in St. Barnabas Church Cemetery.

2) MIDDLE CHILD: GEORGE WASHINGTON RIDGEWAY
married
HENRIETTA ANDERSON RIDGEWAY

Photograph: George and Henrietta Ridgeway. Notice the cane on the ground by
George. And that is a chicken in the background behind Henrietta. This
is taken at their daughter's Iva's home (Iva was married to Ernest
Pyles) on Middleton Lane, in Camp
Springs, where George and Henrietta resided until their deaths.
1900 Census info
for George and Henrietta who are living in Spaldings, Prince Georges
County, MD:

George and Henrietta are now 54 (May 1846?) and 45 (June
1854) respectively and have been married 31 years. Henrietta was
pregnant 10 times, with 9 living children. Living with them are
son Willie, age 28, born April 1872; daughter Hattie born September
1884 (age 15); Wilfred born in DC January 1887 (13) and Ivy born
August 1891 (8). Children were born in Maryland, other than
Wilfred. Living with them is Nancy Anderson, Henrietta's mother
in 1829 and is 70 years of age. She is listed as a widow who was
married only 4 years and had 4 children, 2 of whom are living.
Nancy is listed as born in Maryland but the places of birth of her
parents is listed as "UN" which I assume is unknown, as is the listing
for her month of birth. Interestingly, Willie who is 28 and is
father George (54) are listed as unable to read and write. George is
working as a "day laborer." George and Henrietta own their home
(not a farm) and it is free from any mortgage. Note:
Daughter Hattie grew up to marry Howard Beall.
1910 (4/21) Census info for George and Henrietta in PGC, MD 6th
District:

George and Henrietta reported as 59 and 56, having been married for 42
years. Henrietta is said to have had 10 children, 8 of whom are

and Henrietta was born in DC to a DC-born father and a Maryland-born
mother. Living with them is their son Wilfred Ridgeway (21), who was
born in DC, and is an Ironworker in the Fire Escape industry.
Daughter Iva is 18 and not working outside the home. Their

George is working odd jobs as a laborer. He is listed as able to
read, but not write. 1920 (Jan. 24) Census info for George and Henrietta who are living with
their daughter Ivy Ridgeway Pyles'

Pyles was born in MD and is 5; Norman Pyles is 3 yrs 2 mos. old and born
in MD. George and Henrietta are now 70 and 68, respectively.
Henrietta is listed as born in DC, while George is listed as born in MD.
Ernest is the only one in family working outside of the home and he is a
"truck farmer." If I read the census correctly, they are
living in the Allentown and Ft. Washington Roads area.
1930 Census info for George and Henrietta who are living with
their daughter Ivy Ridgeway Pyles'
family in Surrattsville:

Ernest and Iva are now 39 and 38 respectively and
married when they were 21. They own their home which is valued at
$2000, and is a working farm. They also own a radio set.
Their sons are Harry (15) (is
this Harriet from the 1920 Census???), Norman (14) and Wallace (8). Living
with them are George and Henrietta Ridgeway, parents of Iva.
George is 80 (married at age 19) and Henrietta is 78 (married at age
16). They are living on the "road to Leonardtown." The
Census Taker has listed that these folks were all born in Maryland to
New York-born fathers and Maryland-born moms. Hummm.
Henrietta died
May 6, 1931 of heart disease per her death certificate. She was buried in Site 26 St. Barnabas Church Cemetery, MD, on
