"CATOR, Minnie
On Saturday, April 24, 2004,
MINNIE CATOR; beloved sister of Mitchell Cator, of Baltimore, MD and the late Irene Skop, Louis Cator and Reba "Becky" Sonneborn; loving aunt of many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Services and interment were held at the Anshe Emunah Aitz Chiam Congregation Cemetery, 3901 Washington Blvd., on Sunday, April 25, at 2:30 P.M."

        Generation No. 1                        

JACOB CATOR was born August 2nd, 1883 in Pumpian, Lithuania, Russia, and died December 15, 1969 in Baltimore, MD.  He married EVA SIBBLE who was born in 1894 in Russia also.  She died in Baltimore, MD.   JACOB CATOR  is listed in the Social Security Death Index as having SSN  218-52-0347 and a residence of  Baltimore, Baltimore City, MD.  His SSN was issued in Maryland in 1965.  Different residences of record are:  Arlington, Baltimore City, MD, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Maryland, Mondawmin, Baltimore City, MD, Opimlico, Baltimore City, MD.

The 1920 Maryland Census shows his district as Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Maryland, ED 55.  Jacob, a tailor, is 36 and Eva 28.  With them are daughter Rebecca "Reba", age 11; son Louis age 9; daughter Minnie, age 8, and daughter Ida, age 3 7/12.  They live at 1321 East Fayette Street.  Their native tongue is Hebrew/Jewish. Jacob's naturalization papers have been submitted as of 1920.

The 1930 Maryland Census shows his district as Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Maryland, ED 344 T626_864.  Jacob rents their home on Carroll Street for $25/month and he is 48, having been married half of his life.  Eva is 36 and she married Jacob when she was 15.  Living with them are daughter Reba (Rebecca) age 21, son Lewis age 19; Minnie, age 17; Irene age 13; and son Mitchell, age 4.  Jacob and Eva were both born in Russia, as were their parents.  Their children were all born in Maryland.  They are Jewish.  Minnie and Irene both work as laborers at ages 17 and 13.  Jacob works as a baker (if I am reading the handwriting correctly!).  They speak Hebrew and English.  Jacob is a grocer.
 

The 1940 Maryland Census shows his district as Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Maryland, ED 4-634.  Jacob is now 56 (?) and Eva is 45.  Daughter Minnie is 28 and still living at home and still single.  Her parents were both born in Russia, but she was born in MD as was her brother Mitchell who is half her age, at 14.  Minnie works as a bookkeeper at a retail store.   Jacob's citizenship ship is PA or having first papers; Eva is foreign born or AL.  They have 4 lodgers living with them on 2028 Eagle Street, a home which they rent for $20/month.

The WWII Registration Card for Jacob Cator (from Ancestry.com) follows:  By the time of the registration, Jacob is 58 years old.  He has designated Mitchell Cator as the person who will know how to locate him.  Jacob remains self-employed in the summer time.  He is living in Baltimore MD at 2828 Boarman Avenue.  His phone is MO-2740 (ah, for the simpler numbers!)

 

Dec 29, 1969:  Jacob Cator dies in Baltimore, MD.

Generation No. 2                        

All their children were born in the USA in America:

Reba Cator was born about 1909 but no other information is known.

Louis Julius Cator was born about June 26, 1910 and died Feb. 7, 1980 in Maryland.  Louis married Della Yaffa, daughter of Daniel Yaffa and Jennie Mintzer Yaffa.  Della was born July 25, 1913 and died July 2, 1994.  Louis worked as a grocer and at one time his residence was 2907 Fallstaff Road, Apt. 13, Baltimore.  Della was a housewife busy with two daughters, both born in th 1940s in Baltimore.

They are buried at Shaarei Zion Cemetery in Rosedale, Maryland.

Minnie Cator was born about 1913 in Baltimore, MD.  No other information known to me.

Ida Cator was born about 1916 in Baltimore, MD.  No other information known to me.

Irene Cator was born about October 9, 1916 in Baltimore, MD.  Irene married Harry Skop.  She died June 8, 2001 and is buried at United Hebrew Cemetery in Maryland 

Mitchel/Mitchell was born September 4, 1925.
